Whether you want to slow down a video for cinematic impact or speed up dull footage for hilarious time-lapses, your iPhone can help you achieve both.

Here are a couple of easy ways to adjust the speed of videos in your iPhone's camera roll.

How to Speed Up or Slow Down Videos Using the iMovie App

Apple's iMovie app makes it easy to adjust the speed of your videos. You can download the iMovie app from the App Store for free if you don't have it already. Once you're ready, follow these steps:

  1. Open the iMovie app and select the Movie option on the Start New Project page.
  2. Choose a video you want to slow down or speed up, and tap the Create Movie option at the bottom.
  3. Select the video in the timeline and then tap the speedometer icon at the bottom.
  4. Move the slider at the bottom to the right to increase the speed up to two times. Similarly, you can move the slider to the left to decrease the video speed to as slow as 1/8.
  5. Tap the Play button above the timeline to preview the video. After setting your video to the desired speed, tap Done in the top-left corner.
  6. Tap the Share icon at the bottom and select Save or Share Video. Then, choose the Save Video option to store the edited video.

Similarly, you can use the iMovie app on your Mac to speed up or slow down a video easily.

How to Speed Up or Slow Down Videos Using the Photos App

The built-in Photos app on your iPhone includes several video editing tools, allowing you to crop, rotate, apply filters, and more. You can also use it to speed up or slow down videos, but this feature only works for videos recorded in slow motion on your iPhone.

So, if you've captured a slow-motion video and want to adjust its playback speed, here's how you can do it using the Photos app:

  1. Open the Photos app and select the slow-motion video you want to speed up or slow down.
  2. Tap Edit in the top-right corner. Below the timeline, vertical lines closer together reflect the video's regular speed, while lines farther apart indicate the slow-motion part.
  3. Drag the two taller vertical bars together to remove the slow-motion effect and speed up the video. Similarly, to slow it down, drag the two taller vertical bars further apart.
  4. After making the desired changes, tap Done in the top-right corner to save the edited video.

With the above methods, you should be able to slow down or speed up just about any video saved in your iPhone's camera roll. If you want more options, you can also download one of the many free video editing apps for your iPhone to change the speed of a video just as easily.
